A hidious beast, flapping on ragged, scab-covered wings to snatch away and devour any settler unlucky enough to cross its path! The cockatrice, or "death chicken" happens when a hen roosts over a snake egg. Which is fortunately pretty rare. But when it does happen, it births a killing machine, who clucks poisonous vapours and can gut a man with one swipe of its claws!
